Phoenix : Asian-American elected #KimberlyYee Sworn in as Arizona state Treasurer during the public inauguration ceremony at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix on Monday, Jan. 07.



Yee, a Republican and former state senator, becomes the 1ST Asian-American elected to statewide office in Arizona. She took the oath of office standing onstage with her parents, her husband and their two young children.



When she was first elected to the Arizona Legislature, she became the first Asian-American woman to serve in Arizona’s state house. She also touted being the second woman to serve as Arizona’s Senate majority leader — second only to Sandra Day O’Connor. She was the first Asian-American state Senate majority leader, sources said.
