Rama Vaidyanathan’s ‘Vivartana – Dance Transforms’ in Arizona
Fine Arts Association of Arizona in association with Silambam Phoenix presented “Vivartana – Dance Transforms,” a dance production by Kalaimamani Rama Vaidyanathan on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Tempe Center for the Arts in Tempe, Arizona.
‘Vivarthana’ was enacted on stage by Rama Vaidyanathan and accompanied troupe comprising Dakshina Vaidyanathan Baghel, Rohini Narasimhaiah, Kavya Ganesh, Sophia Salingaros, Isha Parupudia and Sannidhi Vaidyanathan.
VIVARTANA looks at how and why dance transforms us, and it explores the choreographer’s longstanding love affair with Bharatanatyam.
The program was presented in five segments:
PRATIKRIYA (dance responds, a) Poem penned by Rama Vaidyanathan translated into Sanskrit by Divyanand Jha and music composition Ramya Kapadia.
SAMAYOGA (dance merges) Tamil verses from Tirumandiram by Tirumular, music composition Dr S Vasudevan.
NIMAGNA (dance immerses), a poem in Persian poem by Rumi, music composition by Rajat Prasanna, (resource person Prof Masud Alvi). A poem in Braj bhasha by Meera bai, a poem in Kashmiri by Lalded, music by Rajat Prasanna and a poem in Sanskrit by Muthuswamy Dikshitar.
RASABHAVA (dance evokes) Sanskrit verses from Nandikeswara’s “Abhinaya Darpana”, music composed by K Venkateswaran.
A 90-minutes long visual spectacle was an energetic blend of classical and contemporary dances, a splendor of rhythm, and a soul-stirring experience.
