PM Narendra Modi Inaugurated 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas at Varanasi in India

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India on Tuesday, Jan 22. The three-day convention is being organized from January 21 to 23 and the theme of this year’s convention is ‘role of Indian diaspora in building of new India’, PM’s office said in a statement.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said his government has taken many steps for the benefit of NRIs and many more initiatives are in progress for NRIs. He said the government will help Indian diaspora in every possible manner. He called upon Indian diaspora to play a greater role in the development of the land of their ancestors.

Addressing NRIS and Indian-origin people here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said "Our embassies and consulates are being connected to the Passport Seva Project worldwide, It will prepare a centralized system for passport related services. Now taking a step forward, work is on to issue chip-based e-passports.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth was the chief guest of the convention.

Addressing the large gathering of NRIs, Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth said, it is the most precious gathering of India diaspora, the whole word has appreciated the initiatives of Prime Minister Modi.
President Ram Nath Kovind will address the concluding function on Jan 23.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated once in every two years and give a platform to the NRIs to engage with the government, reconnect with their roots and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
